A Letter from Mr. Onorio
Dear School Family:
Thank you for such a positive start to school this year. That is an answer to prayer. Amidst many changes, including 308 students and 58 new families, we have begun well. I see lots of smiling faces coming through our doors each morning. We are settling into a normal pace, which is always good. The after-school car line, which is always a big concern for me, has even gotten into its routine. It was good to see the foundation poured this past week. The walls are next. The excitement of the new addition makes the crowdedness on campus much more bearable.
I want to express my appreciation to all of our faithful parents who made our two back to school activities such successes. We could not do all we do without your help. Listed below are several reminders and announcements. Our HCS athletic events are on a separate printing because there are many sports going on right now. I encourage you to come out and cheer on our athletes as they compete in soccer, volleyball and cross country. You will be blessed by their spirit and athleticism.
News
- Mark you calendars for Meet the Teacher Nights—Thursday, September 21 for elementary grades and Thursday, September 28 for Junior high and high school. Both evenings will go from 7:00 to 8:30. Half of the evening will be devoted to visiting with your child's teachers; the other half will be a general school informational session with me. Watch for more details.
- You should all have received your Entertainment Books. These are the only thing the school will ask you to sell this year. The money raised helps our PTF carry out special projects throughout the year, such as teacher appreciation and library support. I feel good about selling these books because I feel like the buyers can easily get their money's worth out of their investment. Were you aware that you can sell Entertainment Books to family and friends in other cities as well?
- Reminder: the middle driveway is not to be used for student drop off or pick up. Although it may be a little more convenient, it puts at risk our many students who are often walking across the area. It does not have a good turnaround area so cars must back up, making it more dangerous.
- Be watching for a weekly PTF newsletter every Friday that will highlight the week's coming events.
- Parents in Prayer begins Friday, September 8, at 8:15, in the room off the gym. Prayer is a vital foundation of our school. Come and join us.
- There are several painless ways to raise funds for HCS:
- Save you Boxtops for Education.
- Buy Kohls, Kroger or Marsh gift cards and certificates in the office. They cost you no more than spending cash at the store, but we receive 5%.
- Turn in any old books, magazines, or CD's. They must be in good condition and magazine address labels may be crossed out, not cut off. What we can't use in our school library will be sold and the money used to purchase books we can use.
- Family Book Stores give Library Builder Stamps that we can use to purchase library books. They give them with every purchase, but you must ask for them.
- There is no school on Monday, September 6, because of Labor Day. If you do not have a church home or would just like to celebrate a Sunday outdoors, Horizon Christian Fellowship will be having its annual Labor Day service in our amphitheater at 10 a.m. Afterward we will have food and the recreation facilities will be available.
May the Lord bless you as we travel through this school year together.
Sincerely, Frank
